There's no question that video has mushroomed into a massive new communications and marketing opportunity. What some people may not realize is how inexpensive it is to create short videos for instructional, promotional or educational purposes.

During a recent speaking engagement, I told the audience that they could create their own videos at almost no cost and they didn't even need a video camera. Of course, I got a few stunned looks, but it's true.

Let me explain.

Amazon "Fire" to Battle iPad

10/1/2011

The new Amazon Kindle Fire tablet is getting positive reviews, though it's a bit early to say whether it will be a real threat to the Apple iPad. As you can see from the following report, it has a lot going for it, including Amazon's powerful "cloud" computing infrastructure. And the big feature is price. It's going to sell for $199, less than half the price of the cheapest iPad.

My take: devices like these will continue to drive more and more multi-media content to the web. Check out more here at goldtonemedia.com to see how we can help you take advantage of these products.

Postbroadcast World

Wonder what Google's up to these days?

Take a look at this article from the New York Times for the latest insight. I especially like how reporter David Carr describes YouTube, which is owned by Google: "...a platform that is looking more and more like a network for a postbroadcast world."

It's clear from the article that Google needs content, just as the early broadcast pioneers realized they needed programs for their radio stations. That spells opportunity for almost anyone with a computer, a microphone and a video camera!

Make Words Come Alive with Audio

3/19/2011

Got something to say to a customer or to your target audience? Then why not speak the words and make a brief podcast? You can do it fairly easily (or have someone do it for you) and in the process, make a connection that's just not the same as with written words.

For example, listen to the brief demo on my home page to see the variety of ways one can connect with audio products. It's not the same as written text, is it? Sure, the written word is great and will always be with us, but with voice overs, audio narrations, podcasts and multimedia presentations, your message can really come alive.

Imagine an employee "listening" to your monthly newsletter instead of reading it when it reaches his or her inbox. The great thing about digital audio is that you can download it to any number of players and take it with you. Listen in the car on the way to work, on a train or at the airport.

Consider audio. It can make words come alive.

Why do some videos get thousands and thousands, if not millions of hits on sites like YouTube? They're fun, unusual, off the wall or downright cute. Whatever the "it" is, people spread the word. The whole beauty of the web when it comes to multimedia and video products is that others can do your marketing for you. Take a look at the example below. It's received more than 7.5 million views.

Multimedia for your Website

The Internet, web site development and new technology have all combined to finally give us the multimedia options many of us have been dreaming of for years. I remember attending a computer show several years ago and hearing people talk about watching video on one's phone. It seemed like such a pipe dream at the time.

No more. So, the question is whether you're making the most of the opportunity we all now have to create compelling messages and informational products? Some of the tools out there cost nothing, others cost very little. And, the really nice thing is that the Internet is very forgiving. People accept a lesser quality of video. In other words, you don't have to have whiz bang graphics in order to take part in this new arena.

So, if you've been waiting for just the right moment to get involved in audio, video and other multimedia products for your website, this is it!

To Infinity and Beyond

It's a digital world, but don't worry, there's very little math involved for most of us. We pretty much just consume the 1s and 0s that make up this crazy world of digital media. But just as in math, there's virtually no limit to what you can do with all of these binary methods of communicating.

If you have a message to deliver and you're still using conventional print methods, you could be missing out on the huge impact digital media can have for you and your organization. Consider multimedia opportunities such as podcasts, online video, digital slide shows, PowerPoint presentations, and more.

This blog will attempt to keep you up to date on ideas and opportunities for you to communicate with the spoken word, images and video. Check back often for tips and suggestions. And, please let us know what you think.
